Now They Call Me Infidel, Nonie Darwish, Sentinel, 2006.
Nonie Darwish is an Egyptian Muslim who grew up in Gaza and Egypt, then immigrated to the
United States. She gives the western reader great insight into the Middle East culture, Islam,
and her perspective on the global conflicts of terrorism. She shares her story with a sensitivity
that always presents Islam as a religion of peace. She opens our eyes to the corruption of that
view by Middle East politics. This is a must read to understand how news and propaganda can affect
our free-thinking. We clearly become aware of the forces that shape our understanding of people and
our world.
9th grade and up - Presents sensitive issues of anti-Semitism, inhumane treatment of the poor and women,
hatred, oppression, and corruption of truth.
SELF-IMPROVEMENT
- The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, Sean Covey, Fireside, 1998.
